Cinema 4D Sculpting Vol 2

I have released Maxon C4D Sculpting Volume TWO. As the first volume of the series says, sculpting is an amazing feature of C4D. MAXON CINEMA 4D Release 15 was strongly improved and the sculpting toolset has been enhanced a lot. It has new tools, new painting modes, improved mask toolset, new projection toolset and much more. It came with many small, but very powerful features. The first part of the second volume shows all of these improvements. The second part of the second volume finishes the sculpting process itself. The baking is the key of the success, because you can´t animate your object without that, share it and so on. It will teach you everything you will need. It will show the importance of picture color depth, all displacement and normal maps technologies, material setups, texture use and baking. It explains everything about Ambient occlusion baking and how to get the look you need. Ambient Occlusion is not the best for a detail map, so we will bake a cool cavity map and will use it instead of the AO. It touches on a texturing process at the end of the volume and baked texture asset usage.

Introduction

MAXON CINEMA 4D Release 15 features

01

We can use the sculpting toolset on a standard polygon mesh. It´s the first very important improvement, because we can use the Sculpting toolset for true symmetry. Draw modes were extended as well, we have got new powerful modes here. This volume shows new mask commands and mask painting enhancement, new Inflate tool settings like Flood and Material and much more. At the end of the lesson we will use all these new features and produce a very realistic and a very detailed handlebar grip object with breathtaking details in several minutes.

02

The sculpting toolset has been improved by another important tool named Amplify, it multiplies sculpted surfaces. It´s the key improvement of Release 15 and it supports advanced ridges and crevices feature well.

CINEMA 4D R15 came with a new Sculpt symmetry tool, we can mirror masks, sculpted surface etc. The last added feature is the project mesh command, that allows us to project an editable mesh onto another surface. You will not want to be without these enhancement anymore...

Symmetrical UV editing

CINEMA 4D Release 15 improvements are the first main topic of the volume, the texture baking process is the second. The sculpted object baking, of course. However, we need a suitable UV mesh. We have made it already, but we will see how to use the sculpting toolset as an amazing UV editor. Editor, that supports fully symmetrical editing. It´s another very powerful CINEMA 4D sculpting hidden feature, nevertheless. It needs a free plugin and it is available for Windows users only.

Internal UV mesh subdivision

p>Texturing of a sculpted object can be a hard task, because an internal UV mesh subdivision can make it a bit non anticipated. This volume explains everything about an internal UV mesh subdivision of a sculpted object and it shows all subsequentions it should have.

Picture color depth

03

Picture color depth is the next task. It will teach you how important picture color depth can be and it demonstrates the real quality impact of a wrong depth choice.

Normal maps baking

Bake Sculpt object command can bake three different maps: Displacement map, Normal map and Ambient occlusion map. The volume explains all normal maps modes, world, object and tangent. Especially the Tangent mode is very important, because it is the most important normal map mode ever.

Displacement maps baking

displ

Displacement maps are the second main task of the baking. The volume describes all 6 texture modes that CINEMA 4D offers, because these modes are very different from one another. It explains intensity modes, Red/Green mode and all RGB modes as well. According to the Tangent normal map, the tangent RGB mode is the best mode for almost every mode you can imagine and the chapter shows why.

Default Ambient occlusion baking and manually baking

AO

The Ambient occlusion effect is the last effect we can bake by the Bake sculpt object command, however it does not offer any ambient occlusion settings and parameters. I will teach you how the effect works, all its features and settings and how to bake it manually for the look you exactly need.

Cavity maps creating and baking

cavity

Ambient occlusion effect is not suitable to be used as a details map. It generates unwanted contact shadows and we need to avoid them. So, we must use a bit of a different approach. This volume will teach you how to generate your own cavity map, that´s much more suitable for the task. Cavity map baking is a common and very important procedure that can improve almost every model, even not a sculpted object.

Advanced texturing, textures asset using

psd

A painting process usually follows the sculpting and texture baking. Its necessary to show how to paint a sculpted object. BodyPaint 3D can´t do it alone, we can help using another application like Adobe Photoshop. The volume will teach you how to effectively use painting tools, projection painting, how to simulate symmetrical painting, freeze mode and how to export a projection painting layer into Adobe Photoshop. Adobe Photoshop is used for advanced sampling, two advanced deformation modes are used here.
